RUMFORD, Maine (GreenBayPhoenix.com) - Three Green Bay Nordic skiers - senior Carolyn Freeman (Ely, Minn.), sophomore Eddie Gurney (Brookfield, Wis.) and freshman Kailey Mucha (Soldotna, Alaska) - wrapped up competition at the 2011 U.S. Cross Country Championships over the weekend at Maine's Black Mountain.

The championships began last Sunday, but warm weather and poor conditions delayed several races as competition resumed Wednesday and concluded on Saturday.

Freeman continued her strong senior season against tough competition, placing 24th out of 157 skiers in the 10K classic on Wednesday with a time of 35:16.4. On Thursday, she earned a 15th-place finish in the 20K freestyle event, finishing in 54:11. Freeman wrapped things up on Saturday by placing 26th in the freestyle sprints.

For her strong showing throughout the week, Freeman has been named as the second alternate for the United States U-23 Olympic Develpment team. She will await word on whether or not she will be joining the U-23 team on a training trip to Sweden, followed by competition at the U-23 World Championships in Otepea, Estonia at the end of January.

Mucha also had a solid week, placing 85th with a time of 37:39.5 in the 10K classic, while also taking 21st out of 76 competitors in the junior girls 5K freestyle (14:48.2). In addition, the freshman took fifth in the junior girls freestyle sprints.

On the men's side, Gurney placed 109th out of 203 racers on Wednesday in the 15K classic, finishing in 50:04.5. The sophomore turned around on Thursday to place 31st in a field of 93 in the 10K freestyle, crossing the finish line in 27:13.8.
