GREEN BAY, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) - After averaging 20 points and 4.5 rebounds over the past two contests,
No. 21/16 Green Bay senior Celeste Hoewisch (Hortonville, Wis.) has been named
the Horizon League Player of the Week, announced by the league office Monday.
This is Hoewisch's first Player of the Week award this season and second of her
career.
Hoewisch scored
four points and grabbed one rebound in the first half of play against Butler
Jan. 27, before pouring in 19 points and grabbing four boards throughout 20
minutes of play in the second half. The senior captain led the Phoenix to a
66-62 win at Butler with 23 points while going 8-8 from the free-throw line and
3-3 from three-point range. With the win, Green Bay secured the top spot in the
Horizon League standings with its 9-0 record.
In Green Bay's 69-50
win at Valparaiso Jan. 29, Hoewisch led all scorers with 17 points while
playing a game-high 34 minutes. For the ninth time this season, Hoewisch was
perfect from the free-throw line going 4-4 against the Crusaders. In addition,
Hoewisch was 3-5 from beyond the arc as the Phoenix shot its second-highest
percentage of the season from long range (40.9).
Hoewisch is third
in the league in both free-throw percentage and three-point field goal
percentage shooting 86 and 38 percent respectively. Hoewisch is also third in
league play averaging 2.7 steals per contest.
Green Bay returns
to action at the Kress Events Center Thursday Feb. 3 as it hosts Cleveland
State (12-8, 5-4 HL) at 7 p.m. followed by Youngstown State (3-17, 1-8 HL)
Saturday at 2 p.m. Thursday is the Cellcom canned food drive collection where
Cellcom will match all donations collected. Thursday night is also Student
Athlete Academic Success Recognition night for student-athletes who earned a
grade-point-average of 3.5 or higher for the spring 2010 or fall 2011
semesters.
Saturday is a
celebration of our alumni at halftime. All alumni are invited to participate in
a pick-up basketball game at 11 a.m. at the Kress Events Center.
