GREEN BAY, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) - The Green Bay women's tennis team dropped a pair of
matches over the weekend, losing at Marquette 7-0 on the road Friday and in its
home opener against Indiana-Purdue Fort Wayne on Sunday afternoon.
At
No. 1 singles, Green Bay's Emily Lawent
had two three-set matches where the senior won the opening set before dropping
sets two and three. Lawent lost to Marquette's Olga Fischer 1-6, 6-4, 10-2 on
Friday and then took the first set 7-5 Sunday against before coming up short in
the final two sets.
In
the match against Marquette, junior Morgan
Weuve had a hard-fought first set against Paola Calderon before falling 7-6
(5), 6-1.
Against
IPFW, Green Bay's No. 2 and No. 3 doubles teams had close matches. Weuve and Rebecca Nelson dropped the match at No.
2 8-5 while Maria Anderson and Julia Kedryzki fell at No. 3, 8-6.
Green
Bay's next match will take place on Friday, March 4 when the Phoenix opens
Horizon League competition against Milwaukee at home at 1 p.m.
