GREEN BAY, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) - The Green Bay women's tennis team dropped a 5-2
decision to in-state rival Milwaukee Friday afternoon in its Horizon League
opener at the Green Bay Tennis Center.
The
Phoenix won a pair of singles matches against the Panthers, as sophomores Maria Anderson (Marshfield, Wis.) and Rebecca Nelson (Brookfield, Wis.)
picked up victories in the No. 4 and No. 6 spots. Anderson defeated Milwaukee's
Megan Gow 7-6(5), 6-2, while Nelson earned a 7-5, 6-2 win over Beth Ganser.
Green
Bay's senior duo of Emily Lawent (Milwaukee,
Wis.) and Jennifer Bradfield (Fairfield,
Iowa) won at No.1 doubles, defeating Gow and Kelly Fritz 8-4. Milwaukee won the
other two matches to take the doubles point.
The
Phoenix has a slight break in its season, as it is next in action on Saturday,
March 19 at UIC, followed by a meeting with Valparaiso the following day.
