GREEN BAY, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) - The Green Bay women's tennis team completed its 2011
season on Saturday by splitting a pair of matches against Chicago State and South
Dakota. The Phoenix fell to CSU 4-3 on Saturday morning before closing the year
with a dominant 6-1 victory over South Dakota at Green Bay Tennis Center.
Senior
Emily Lawent (Green Bay, Wis.) was
playing for the final time in her Green Bay career, and the southpaw went out
in style by cruising to a 6-3, 6-1 win over South Dakota's Alena Sergeychik at
number one singles. She also teamed with Jennifer
Bradfield (Fairfield, Iowa) at number
one doubles in an 8-1 win over Sergeychik and Marina Kiefer.
Lawent's
teammates helped her end her career with a team win by winning three of the
other four singles matches. Bradfield defeated Veronika Makashov 6-4, 6-3 at
number two singles while junior Morgan
Weuve (Green Bay, Wis.) dispatched Ysabel Nunez 6-0, 6-0 at number three
singles.
Rebecca Nelson
(Brookfield, Wis.) won at number five singles, beating Kiefer 6-0, 6-2. Nelson
also won in the morning match with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Chicago State's Mysta
Townsell.
