DETROIT, Mich. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) - The Green Bay women's tennis team concluded its Horizon
League schedule on Friday with a tough, 4-3 loss to Detroit. The Phoenix won
three of the six singles matches, but the Titans swept the doubles point to
earn the narrow victory.
The
Phoenix earned victories in the Nos. 3-5 singles matches, as junior Morgan Weuve (Green Bay, Wis.) and sophomores Maria Anderson (Marshfield, Wis.) and
Rebecca Nelson (Brookfield, Wis.) each won in third set tiebreakers.
Weuve
picked up a win at No. 3, defeating Detroit's Julia Fernandes 6-4, 4-6, 10-3.
After splitting the first two sets in the No. 4 spot (7-6, 4-6), Anderson came
out strong in the tiebreaker and won 10-5 over Raina Halabi. In the No. 5
match, Nelson earned a come-from-behind win over Erin Weldon, taking the second
and third (6-4, 10-8) after dropping the first set 2-6.
The
Phoenix closes out its regular season this Saturday with a pair of home matches
at the Green Bay Tennis Center. Green Bay hosts Chicago State at 1 p.m., and
then welcomes South Dakota at 4 p.m.
