MADISON, Wis.
(GreenBayPhoenix.com) - The Green Bay
women's tennis team opened up its spring season on Friday with a match against
Eastern Michigan at the Nielsen Tennis Center on the University of Wisconsin
campus. The Phoenix dropped its first contest of 2012, 7-0, to the Eagles.
Phoenix freshman Amanda Timm (Milwaukee, Wis.) was involved in Green Bay's two closest matches of
the evening - the No. 3 singles and the No. 2 doubles matches. In singles
action, Timm dropped a tight 7-5, 6-4 result to EMU's Mariya Toncheva after
teaming up with junior Rebecca Nelson
(Brookfield, Wis.) for a narrow, 8-6 defeat in the second doubles spot.
The duo of Jennifer Bradfield (Fairfield, Iowa) and Morgan Weuve (Green Bay, Wis.) had a tough test in the No. 1 doubles match, facing
the Eagles' nationally-ranked pair of Nino Mebuke and Miriam Westerink. Bradfield
and Weuve hung tough, but Mebuke and Westerink prevailed with an 8-3 result.
The Phoenix women will return to action on Sunday when
they travel back to Madison to take on Wisconsin at 9 a.m.
