- The Green Bay women's tennis team dropped a 7-0 result
to Wisconsin Sunday morning at Nielsen Tennis Stadium on the University of
Wisconsin campus. The Phoenix falls to 0-2 on the young spring season, while the
Badgers improve to 3-0.
Wisconsin took all three doubles matches before sweeping
the six singles contests in straight sets. Senior Morgan Weuve (Green Bay, Wis.) turned in Green Bay's best
performance Sunday, battling tough with the Badgers' Nova Patel at the No. 3
singles spot before eventually falling 6-2, 7-5.
"Weuve demonstrated great senior leadership," first-year Phoenix head coach Sara Schubring said. "Patience from the baseline and great court coverage kept her in position to take a set off of Patel. Credit to Patel for staying with her game plan and executing clutch passing shots to grab the late break, cutting Weuve's bid short."
Although the Phoenix dropped both of its matches this weekend against Eastern Michigan and Wisconsin, Schubring is confident about the direction the team is headed.
"Consistently choosing high-percentage shots based on court positioning is an on-going theme for our team this spring, and despite being swept in each match, the team showed progress in this area from Friday to Sunday."
Green Bay returns to action next Saturday against
Marquette in Milwaukee, Wis., at 5 p.m.
