PEORIA, Ill.
(GreenBayPhoenix.com) - The Green Bay
women's tennis team (1-7, 0-1 Horizon League) battled to its first victory of
the spring season on Sunday, picking up a 5-2 road win against Bradley at the
Clubs at River City in Peoria, Ill.
After winning the doubles point, the Phoenix took four
of the six singles contests - three of them in three-set fashion.
A pair of seniors led the Phoenix at the No. 1 and No.
2 singles spots on Sunday. At No. 1, Jennifer Bradfield (Fairfield, Iowa) split the first two sets (6-4, 6-7 (9)) against
Bradley's Elizabeth Przystawski before posting a 6-2 win in the third set. Morgan Weuve (Green Bay, Wis.) dropped
her first set at the No. 2 spot against Meredith McDonagh, but rallied back to
take sets two (6-2) and three (6-3).
Also winning in singles action were juniors Maria Anderson (Marshfield, Wis.) and Rebecca Nelson (Brookfield, Wis.). Like
Weuve, Anderson earned a come-from-behind win at No. 4, fighting her way to a
2-6, 6-1, 6-2 victory over the Braves' Kennedy Scott. Nelson won her No. 5
contest in straight sets, defeating Jessie Bertino 6-3, 6-2.
In doubles, the senior duo of Bradfield and Weuve won at
No. 1, defeating Adele Henke and Carly Miles 8-5. The freshman tandem of Samantha Iwen (De Pere, Wis.) and Amanda Timm (Milwaukee, Wis.) secured
the doubles point with a convincing 8-0 victory at No. 3.
