- The Green Bay
men's tennis team wrapped up a successful home stand Sunday morning by
defeating Carleton College 7-0 at Western Racquet and Fitness Club. The win
marked the third
in as many days for the Phoenix (4-1), which has now won four straight
matches after dropping its season opener.
Green Bay began the day by sweeping the three doubles matches before winning
all six singles contests in straight sets.
Freshmen
Michael Tenzer (Neuried,
Germany) and Felix Goepper
(Seelbach, Germany) had strong mornings for the Phoenix, teaming up to win the
No. 2 doubles match 8-2 over Carleton's Peter Dunn and Paul Cooper. In singles
action, Tenzer rolled past Dunn at the No. 1 spot (6-1, 6-1), while Goepper
beat Andrew Hwang 6-2, 6-1 at No. 2.
Junior
Craig Cox (Surrey, England) continued
his hot start to the spring season, remaining undefeated in both singles (5-0)
and doubles (5-0). Cox and Erik Finkenbrink (Duelman, Germany) paired up to take the No. 1 doubles match,
beating Hwang and Dan Vollman 8-4. Cox then beat Vollman one-on-one at the No.
4 singles spot (6-0, 6-1).
Green Bay is next in action on Friday, Feb. 17 when it travels to Chicago for a
pair of matches. The Phoenix first faces IUPUI at 12:30 p.m. before taking on
Chicago State at 5:30 p.m.
