GREEN BAY, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) - The Green Bay women's tennis team fell to Western Michigan 6-1 in its home opener on Saturday at Green Bay Tennis Club. The highlight of the match for the Phoenix was freshman Stephanie Londre (Burlington, Wis.), who picked up her first win of the spring season with a 4-6, 7-6 (1), 10-8 victory at No. 2 singles over the Broncos' Jill Pastunink.
"It was an impressive win from Londre," head coach Sara Schubring said. "She battled back from losing the first and played a flawless second-set tiebreak, using strong serving. She overcame a shaky start in the third-set tiebreaker and showed a lot of poise and mental toughness to outlast Pastunink for the win."
Western Michigan won each of the three doubles matches to secure the day's opening point, and then went on to take five of the six singles contests in straight sets.
The Phoenix is next in action on Saturday, Feb. 16 when it hosts the University of Chicago at 11:30 a.m. at Western Racquet and Fitness Club.
