Phoenix Suffers 7-0 Loss at Drake

DES MOINES, Iowa (GreenBayPhoenix.com) - The Green Bay women's tennis team began its three-match road swing on Saturday with a 7-0 loss to Drake at the Roger Knapp Tennis Center. The Phoenix fell to 0-6 in the spring season with the defeat, while the Bulldogs improved to 4-4.

In doubles action, Green Bay's Rebecca Nelson (Brookfield, Wis.) and Amanda Timm (Milwaukee, Wis.) turned in a solid performance at No. 1, but Drake's duo of Nell Boyd and Jordan Eggleston prevailed with a narrow 8-6 victory. The Bulldogs also took the No. 2 and No. 3 contests to sweep the doubles point.

Drake was dominant in singles play, taking all six matches in straight sets. Senior Maria Anderson (Marshfield, Wis.) put up the best fight, but ultimately fell to Eggleston 6-4, 6-4 at No. 3.

The Phoenix heads to Waterloo, Iowa on Sunday for a pair of matches against South Dakota State at 9 a.m. and Northern Iowa at 1 p.m.
