GREEN BAY, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) – The Green Bay women's tennis team showed improvements throughout its lineup on Friday evening against South Dakota, but the Phoenix ultimately fell 5-2 to the Coyotes at Western Racquet and Fitness Club.
Green Bay scored victories at the top two singles spots, as sophomore Stephanie Londre (Burlington, Wis.) won at No. 1 and freshman Claudia Negron (Lima, Peru) won at No. 2.
Londre claimed the first set 6-3 against the Coyotes' Rymma Maslova, but Maslova bounced back with a 6-0 win in the second to knot things up. Londre played an aggressive third-set tiebreaker and took home a hard-fought 10-7 win.
Negron won in straight sets at No. 2, running away with a convincing 6-3, 6-0 victory over Milica Pavlovic.
The Phoenix has two more home matches this weekend, welcoming IPFW on Saturday at 11:30 a.m. and Bradley on Sunday at 10 a.m.
