GREEN BAY, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) – The Green Bay women's tennis team (0-8) welcomed in-state rival Milwaukee (3-9) to Western Racquet & Fitness Club this evening. The Phoenix was unable to collect a point in the first league matchup of the season, falling 7-0 to Milwaukee.
Milwaukee set the tone of the match right away, claiming all three doubles decisions to earn the 1-0 advantage heading into singles play.
Stephanie Londre competed at the No. 1 slot for Green Bay, controlling the tempo of the first set and jumping out to an early lead after the 6-1 set win. The second set was managed by Milwaukee's Bailey, who defeated Londre 6-0 to knot things up at one set apiece. Londre tried to respond Bailey's stellar play in the third set, but was unable to keep pace with the Milwaukee No. 1, falling 10-7 in the tiebreaker and dropping the match decision.
Olivia Headford went down with an injury following the doubles matches, forcing everyone to play a slot above their normal position.
The Phoenix women return to action next Thursday, Mar. 19 when the team travels to Highland Heights, KY for a dual match with Northern Kentucky.
