Green Bay Falls to Wright State in Season Finale

GREEN BAY, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) – The Green Bay women's tennis team competed in its final match of the season this afternoon, welcoming Wright State to the friendly confines of the Western Racquet & Fitness Club. The Phoenix fought hard on all courts in front of its home crowd, but was unable to prevail in the contest and fell 6-1 to the Raiders.\

Wright State picked up the first victory of the match in the doubles contests, collecting a 6-1 victory on the No. 3 court to lead the Phoenix 1-0 with two decisions left in play.

Stephanie Londre and Maria Neff responded to the deficit for the Phoenix, defeating WSU's Karoline Huller/Aby Madrigal 6-2 to knot things up at one decision apiece.

The final decision left in play was on the No. 1 court, with Olivia Headford and Samm Pedersen vying for the court's decision and Green Bay point. The Phoenix women were relentless in their attack but were unable to best the Raiders' Linsey Verstrepen/Vanessa Madrigal, as Green Bay fell 7-6 on the final doubles court left in play.

Londre was the lone Phoenix to pick up a singles win for Green Bay, with her victory being garnered at the No. 1 slot. Londre jumped out to an early lead over Wright State's V. Madrigal, picking up the first set 7-6. Madrial proved she would not go away without a fight and won the next set 6-3, leaving a tiebreak to decide the point. Londre jumped out to an early 4-2 lead in the tiebreaker, but Madrigal raced back to knot things up at 4-all. Londre then took control of the match, running away to a 10-7 win to pick up the point for Green Bay.

Stephanie Londre had a great day in singles and doubles,” said head coach Sommer May. “She had a convincing win at two doubles with her partner, Maria. Steph continued the momentum into her singles match. She played with great determination and fight today. I'm really happy with the way she finished the season.”
