GREEN BAY, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) – The Green Bay women's tennis team (1-5) claimed its first victory of the season Friday evening, winning the Battle of the Bay after downing St. Norbert College 4-3.

The Phoenix claimed the doubles point after wins from the duos of Theresa Tebon/Tallie Piaskowski (6-2) and Maria Neff/Samm Pedersen (6-3).

Piaskowski claimed a win at No. 2 singles for Green Bay, downing Witt in straight sets (6-0, 6-1). The next singles victory came from Neff, who defeated Gahan 6-1, 6-0 to pick up the point for Green Bay.
The match was clinched after a win from Samm Pedersen at No. 5 singles for the Phoenix, defeating the Green Knights' Whelenbrauck 6-0, 6-0.

"It always takes some metal toughness to pull through and win when you start down 1-0 and shorthanded at No. 3 doubles due to injury, the girls all played well," head coach Tim Dean said. "Samm and Maria showed their experience as seniors today both in singles and doubles; they made a lot of shots and played consistent. Tallie and Theresa were solid in double, breaking their serves early and often. It was a good win for us."

The Phoenix women will be off from competitive action until March 24, when the team travels to Cleveland, Ohio, to open Horizon League play at Cleveland State.
