GREEN BAY, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) --- After a strong showing on the ski trails all season, Green Bay Nordic Skiing's Sadie Peterson will be competing this upcoming week at the 2019 NCAA Championships in Stowe, Vermont as one of the best collegiate Nordic skiers in the country.
"The greatest part about working with Sadie is that even though her main goal of the season has been accomplished - qualifying for the championships - she is still hungry for more," said head coach Jeremy Hecker. "Neither of us want Green Bay to just be "participants" at the championships; we both want to be competitors and show the rest of the country what the Phoenix are made of."

The redshirt sophomore will represent the Phoenix in the Nordic events held on Wednesday, March 6 and Friday, March 8 at the Trapp Family Lodge. Wednesday's competition will be the freestyle event, while Friday's will be the classic. This year's skiing championships will be webcast live on NCAA.com. Participants are selected on a regional basis from three designated regions for Nordic skiing (Central, East and West Regions). Bids are awarded to regions using a formula determined by the skiing committee. Peterson is one of just six women qualifying from the Central Region.
Road to Greatness
"When I first sat down with Sadie this fall in our individual team meetings, we both knew that qualifying for the NCAA championships was going to be our main goal for the season," remarked Hecker. "This being the first championships that Sadie has qualified for, we both knew that it was never a for-sure thing. Sadie had to check off all of the boxes through the fall and winter in order to get to where we are now."
Â
"While we are both 100% focused on next week's races, I am excited by the prospects of what is to come for both Sadie and this team," Hecker added. "Sadie has two more years of eligibility after this season where she can make some serious waves in the future. This is also my first year of working with both Sadie and the team, so with more time to both work with them and add more depth to the roster, I can see big changes in the next couple of years."
