Katie Cooney started her career as right handed pitcher with placement on the Horizon League All-Newcomer softball team. Her prowess was not only in her pitching, but with her bat. Despite not playing her 2008 season due to an ACL tear in her left knee, and playing half of her senior season with a partially torn ACL on the right, she amassed hall of fame worthy accomplishments both at the plate and at the pitcher's mound. Katie holds top ten all time career marks in at bats, #3; hits, #l;Home runs, #7; RBl's, #3 Batting average, #3; slugging percentage, #10; on base percentage, #10 and total bases, #3. She also holds single season marks in the top ten in hits, RBl's, and batting average. On the mound, she achieved career #1 records in wins, complete games, (tied with Hall of Famer Debbie Kind at 45), appearances and saves, 9, tied with 3 others, and is #2 all time in strikeouts. Katie, in terms of single season records, is top five in wins, twice; strikeouts, twice; and complete games. In terms of conference awards, besides the newcomer award, she was selected 2nd team all -conference in 2007 and 1st team in 2010.
